Last month I headed over to Shoreditch to visit Zapote. This is the new contemporary Mexican restaurant by Yahir Gonzalez, and co-founded with Tony Geary. Geary has run some of London’s hottest restaurants from Sketch to Hutong and the Aqua Group worldwide. Zapote is a Mexican match made in heaven.
This zen like restaurant can be found in Leonard St, a 5 minute walk from Old Street tube in Shoreditch. It is a large restaurant with 65 covers, and a bar that probably hums a tune in the evenings. Yet at lunchtime mid week, I could happily say zen was the mood.
I loved the whole look at and feel of Zapote. It’s a cool spot, with food and cocktails to match.
Although the concept is sharing plates, you could just as easily order a starter and a main for those not willing to share. We were happy to share and went with some chef recommendations. The food is as vibrant as they sell it to you.
We ate enchiladas, sweet potato, radish salads and we shared an incredible aged beef ribeye. Their menu changes regularly, so be led by the staff if you are unsure of what to order.. There are enough vegan options if you don’t eat meat or fish to keep you more than happy.
Zapote Shoreditch oozes charm and appeal, the food was so good I could have ordered it all again to take home. Since my visit, I’ve had lovely feedback from people who’ve been on my recommendation and loved it. Now it’s your turn…
Let me know what you think!
