Gold is the new neighbourhood pub restaurant, in Notting Hill. Portobello Road, to be precise, and I can report it’s a hit! A three storey ‘destination’ is what they call themselves, and it is pure gold indeed.
Brainchild of Nick House (Mahiki and Whisky Mist), he certainly had the vision for something big. The man behind the food is ex River Cafe chef, Theo Hill, who is cooking everything from a wood fired oven and open flame. Instagram was awash with foodies saying how good it was… it went to the top of my list to visit.
Take a look inside
The interiors alone are worth writing about about. You could be sitting in anywhere but London in the downstairs room – personally my favourite. The washed walls and greenery that fill the room had us lusting for more plants in our lives!
The floors upstairs had a few private rooms and one huge eating floor. The bar is at the front of the restaurant.
Our menu
The menu is considered to be informal, honest & humble. The food is hot on seasonal food, generous in portion sizes and will have you licking you lips before it even arrives.
We had five dishes between us. We started with the chickpea flatbread alongside the burrata, tuscan ham and a delicious tomato salad with salted ricotta and a basil dressing.
Followed by the rabbit tortelloni and the wood roasted Cornish chicken. Each dish better than the next. It was delicious, all of it.
As we had a birthday to celebrate, a little chocolate slice was shared. It completed the meal perfectly.
Verdict : Gold Portobello
The food is excellent, hands down one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. It does come at a price. Our meal without alcohol or coffee was just short of £100. The portion sizes are generous so it is easy to share, just don’t get carried away, because it would be very easy to. Gold is gold…
