Folie is new restaurant on the corner of Soho in Golden Square. Well placed and well named, it is the prettiest restaurant I’ve been into in a while. It has certainly added a little bit of sparkle back to Golden Square.
Victoria Beckham has already said it’s her new favourite place to go. Whilst we were there the bar was heaving with beautiful people drinking very good cocktails over a fabulous playlist.
The 1960/70’s decor is the mastermind of the people behind The Chiltern Firehouse. It is a beautiful golden hue with rich blue seating. Whilst it gives a nod to its location in Golden Square, the floor and lighting feels more like a nod to Alexander Calder.
What to eat at Folie
I wanted a little nibble, and we were recommended the chickpea panisse – a Marseille apéritif. It was like a soft fluffy chip with seasoning, nicely washed down with one of their special cocktails.
Each cocktail is a nod to the restaurant and the links with the South of France. Jane B. was our choice and it was summer in a sip. We both said it was the most delicious cocktail we’ve had in a long time – so good we had two!
Moving on I had the crab on toast, with some side dishes and it was perfect after my Christmas feast.
The boys had the John Dory. with hazelnut and chard. Far more reasonably priced than the Dover sole at £43pp to share. Not quite sure how that is justified, but their sharing plates did seem to be on the pricy side.
We couldn’t leave without a Tarte Tropezienne for the birthday boy. It was nearly as good as I’ve had in St Tropez, the sponge just wasn’t quite as soft as I remembered.
This could be an excuse to head back… They are now open for breakfast.
