If you’re still buzzing after the Royal Platinum Jubilee celebrations in London, here is some great news. I’ve been collaborating with Claridge’s Hotel and discovering their links with Royalty.
This summer in London, as the Royal Palace’s open to the public, the exhibitions stand out as exceptional. In content and history, now is the time to see inside a Royal Palace.
Along with hotel archivist Kate Hudson, we have been looking at the links with Royalty in the various London Palaces. During the month of August, the hotel will share a series of Sunday stories from our Royal visits. You will be able to find them on both our Instagram handles.
London | Buckingham Palace
The Queen’s London residence is Buckingham Palace. This summer, in keeping with the joy of the Jubilee weekend, their Jubilee exhibition opens with a difference. It is an afternoon tea installation by artist Lucy Sparrow aka Sew Your Soul. Think “eyes on the prize” as you walk past this charming eye catching hand sewn English tea party.
The 2022 display ‘Platinum Jubilee: The Queen’s Accession’ is the first since 2019. With one of the finest jewellery collections of any living Monarch, it is the personal stories of this current exhibition that will grab your attention.
It begins at George VI’s coronation with the gown and crown she wore as a young princess. To the more iconic original prints of the Queen taken by Dorothy Wilding are at the centre of the displays and are exquisite. There are many unseen images that utterly captivate the eye, and yet it is the jewellery that really sparkles and tells the personal story for both.
The exhibition is breathtaking, and I cannot recommend it more highly. The Queen has one of the most important art collections in the world, and this is the added perk of the Palace tour.
Windsor | Windsor Castle
A day trip to Windsor is worth it to see Her Majesty’s coronation dress and robe.
This was a highlight to see with Kate, as Claridge’s have managed to secure a panel of the Norman Hartnell dress. When you have seen the coronation dress and robe, which I really urge you to do, you are blown away by how tiny our Queen is, yet so mighty.
Claridge’s has this on display with other exquisite pieces in their archive showcase and are truly worth seeing and enjoying up close.
Superbloom at Tower of London
Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee with a beautiful new meadow surrounding the Tower. We really enjoyed our LLW visit, there is nothing disappointing about seeing flowers bloom in sit stunning setting. During August there is Medieval Mayhem with live performances – perfect family fun. Check the HRP website for details.
Due to close in September, but no fixed date yet.
